Scholarship applications are now available for 2017-2018 school year. The SVACC awards scholarships to students pursuing a college degree in either business or agriculture.
Information on Scholarships:
The Charles A. Farnham Business Scholarship is in honor of an individual who was very active with the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Farnham’s professional background and employment focus was in industrial relations at Northwestern Steel and Wire where he was a Vice-President. Individuals who are pursuing a curriculum of business or industrial relations or an approved business/industrial relations field are eligible to apply for this one year, $1000.00 scholarship. Applicant must be a current high school senior at Rock Falls High School, Sterling High School or Newman Central Catholic High School. The application deadline for the Charles A. Farnham Scholarship is April 15, 2017.
The Agricultural Scholarship is awarded by the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee. Scholarship money is available to individuals pursuing a degree in the field of agriculture. Applicant must be a current high school senior in the WACC service area or a current college freshman from the Sauk Valley Area. The application deadline for the Agricultural Scholarship is March 1, 2017.
2016 Ag Scholarship Recipients:
Each year the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships to assist area students in pursuing their dream of a college education. This year, the chamber awarded 7 local students scholarships to continue their education for the 2016-2017 academic year. Funds for the scholarships come from fundraisers held throughout the year.
The Chamber also awarded the Charles A. Farnham Scholarship which was established in 1968 and honors the late Mr. Farnham who was an active member of the Chamber. Mr. Farnham’s professional background was focused in the area of industrial relations, serving in this capacity at Northwestern Steel and Wire.
The 2016 Ag scholarship winners were introduced at the 32nd Annual Steak Fry in the Country on August 4th. Tess Schaefer, Ashley Cooney and Kile Long attended the event and helped with the dessert auction!
