    CAMP BENSON DIRECTOR

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Our team is looking for a self-motivated individual to lead our resident camp. Under the direction of the CEO, the Camp Director is accountable for the successful management of Camp Benson in accordance with the mission, purpose, image and core values of the Sterling-Rock Falls Family YMCA. Camp Benson’s 113-acre campus has been home to countless friendships, life lessons and summertime memories for generations of campers, earning Y Camp Benson a reputation as one of the premier overnight summer camps in Illinois!

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Creates and recommends objectives for Camp Benson in harmony and support of those of the Association. Monitors and assures achievement of these objectives.

    2. Responsible for preparation of annual income and expense budget for approval by the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

    3. Provides monthly reports on Camp’s activities and planning.

    4. Administers the budget and exercises necessary controls to assure operations are maintained within the approved budget.  Carries out adjustments in operations to assure a surplus from operations.

    5. Provides exemplary leadership in camper recruitment, service and superior retention efforts.

    6. Responsible for developing a camp alumni database and Camp Benson master plan.

    7. Recruits and selects professional staff, employs, supervises and dismisses members of staff in consultation with the CEO.

    8. Provides training necessary to ensure a quality program and broaden the base of knowledge from which the staff draws from.

    9. Plans for and supervises the upkeep of the building, grounds, equipment and facility.

    10. Develops and maintains contacts in the community with business and civic leaders, interpreting the work of Camp Benson, soliciting their interest and support, and enlarging the scope of Y services.

    11. Actively pursues collaborative relationships with agencies, municipalities and school systems.

    12. Ensures camp operations comply with all governmental requirements and meet ACA standards.

    13. Develops and initiates grant requests to augment program offerings.

    14. Ensures all program operations are consistent with Association procedures, including insurance, accidents, purchasing, personnel and accounting systems.

    15. Participates in committees and meetings, and Association-wide assignments as designated by CEO. Active member of the YMCA Leadership Team.

    16. All other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Bachelor’s degree required in a related field and from an accredited college or university

    2. Minimum of 5 years of residential camp management experience required

    3. Multi-team or Branch leader preferred

    4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    5. Effective human relations skills and proven ability to interact in the community and enhance and develop collaborations

    6. Experience managing full time and part time staff

    7. Budgetary and fiscal management of more than $850,000 annually

    8. Fundraising experience a plus

    Housing is provided. The Camp Director’s house is located at Camp Benson - 16355 Scenic Palisades Rd. Mt. Carroll, IL 61053.
