Chamber Holds Awards Dinner
Slide Show Kicks off Anniversary Celebration
More than 150 individuals celebrated the accomplishments of area chamber members on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce 99th annual dinner and awards program held at the Brandywine in Dixon. Each year the Chamber recognizes individuals and businesses for their contributions to the Chamber and to the Sauk Valley Area. This year the Chamber is celebrating its 100th anniversary and started the event with a slide show.
Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce President Sam Card said, “We are fortunate to have so many businesses that make up this great organization and we want to celebrate the contributions our members make to the organization and our community. This annual dinner and program is just one small way we can thank some of those individuals and businesses who have gone above and beyond in the last year.”
Following is a list of this year’s award recipients.
Chamber Service Awards:
Retiring Board Members: Barb Majeski – Manpower, Dave Noble – Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7024 and Rick Turnroth – Turnroth Sign Company
10 Year Service Award: Dana McCoy – CGH Medical Center, Tony Miller – Ward, Murray, Pace & Johnson and Sherry DeWalt – CGH Medical Center
Ambassador Co-Chair Award: Janna Groharing
Ambassador of the Year Award: Amy Poci - Country Inn & Suites
Individual Achievement Award: Kelly Scribner – Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7024
Community Spirit Award: Dillon Schuneman and Nathan Fellows
Friend of Education Award: Mike McCoy – Sterling Public Schools
President’s Award: Susan Boyd – Sterling Main Street
Business of the Year Award: Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7024
In addition to honoring several individuals for their contributions to the community the Chamber introduced the 2012 officer team. The Chamber’s President for 2012 will be Tim Determan, Pinney Printing; 1st Vice President – Jerry Binder, Sterling Public Schools; 2nd Vice-President – Susan Boyd, Sterling Main Street; Treasurer – Karen Voss, Hospice of the Rock River Valley; and Past President – Sam Card, Samuel S. Card CPA PC. These individuals will work with the Board of Directors and staff to set the organization’s agenda for the coming year.
The Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce will also be welcoming three new directors to its 15-member board. Joining this year’s directors will be Pam Topper – Freedom Bank, Brian Hawkins – Hawkins-Cassens Insurance Agency and Robert Reyna – Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7024.
Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kimberly Ewoldsen said, “The annual dinner and awards program is a great way to recognize the support our members provide. We are fortunate to be able to have these individuals providing such great leadership in our community.”
